Samsung Gangnam,
In Store Kiosk Experience
Designing a kiosk system that connects physical space and mobile interaction across a multi floor flagship store.

Project Overview
This project focused on designing an in store kiosk system for Samsung Gangnam, Samsung Electronics’ first flagship store. The challenge was to support a high volume of domestic and international visitors navigating multiple services across five floors. I designed a kiosk experience that connects physical space and mobile interactions through QR based and non QR access, with a strong emphasis on clarity, accessibility and operational flexibility.

Background
Samsung Gangnam targets customers in their 20s and 30s and international visitors in one of Seoul’s busiest districts. In 2022, Gangnam Station recorded the highest daily subway usage in Seoul with 71,598 passengers. In 2023, the district ranked first in pedestrian traffic and annual sales. Given the high volume of domestic and foreign visitors, multilingual and accessible in store guidance was essential.

Problem
Samsung Gangnam offers diverse services across five floors, but offline guidance alone was not enough to help visitors navigate the space or access key services efficiently. Customers in their 20s and 30s, as well as foreign visitors, needed clearer information, easier wayfinding and accessible service entry points.
Insight
Visitors rely heavily on mobile-based information and expect quick access through QR codes.
Kiosk locations and purposes were not immediately recognisable.
Store content changes frequently, requiring flexible and updatable interfaces.
Design Direction
We designed kiosks tailored to each floor’s function, ensuring consistent visual cues and clear wayfinding. QR and non QR access modes were supported, with multilingual content for foreign visitors. An admin system was introduced to update store content quickly and maintain accuracy.

Final Design
Kiosks were customised for each floor’s function, using consistent visual cues aligned with Samsung Gangnam’s interior and brand identity. Interactive elements and clear signage improved recognisability and guided visitors to key services. The UI supported QR and non QR access, multilingual content and tailored flows for different customer needs.
Outcome
The final design offered a unified navigation experience across all five floors, improving clarity and reducing friction for both domestic and international visitors. The modular structure allowed store staff to update content through an admin system, keeping information accurate and current.
